Treating Termite Infestation in New Construction
Pre-Construction
Termite treatment in pre-construction stages includes several procedures that must be done to ensure an area of termite-free construction. Treating the soil before any slab placement with insecticides is the most common method of termite treatment. It will form a chemical barrier between the ground slab and masonry that will prevent the insects from approaching the building. The chemical treatment can be done as follows:
- Treat the bottom and sides of an excavation with chemical products prior to the onset of foundation work.
- Make holes in the earth and fill them with chemical products where slabs on grade will be built.
- Use chemicals where walls and floors intersect.
- Treat the perimeter of the construction by making holes filled with chemicals surrounding structure.
- Fill an area with chemical products in pipe bedding to secure the future of the piping
- Use specific anti-termite chemicals to treat the portion of the buildings were wooden products such as cabinets and others will be placed.
The pre-construction termite control method primarily comprises of Four major stages. Apart from these four major Pre treatment stages the Bureau of Indian standards recommend two minor stages which are optional and left to the choice of homeowners. Termite being a soil pest, all four major recommended stages of the treatment are applied in the soil of the building. As per Bureau of Indian standards ,Major stages of termite protection for a new home are as depicted below.
- Bottom and Sides of Trenches of Foundation
- Back fill in Immediate Contact with Foundation .
- Junction of Wall and Floor.
- Top Surface of Plinth Filling
- External Perimeter of Building.
Post-construction
Post-construction Anti-termite treatment is a method of termite control that is carried out on a building ready for habitation or a residence that has been occupied. This method is carried out when these pest intruders attack through surface soil and spread throughout the building to get food. Termites will rise from the ground and cause damage to all wood furniture, doors, wood frames, and others.
Anti-termite post-construction in buildings that have been attacked by termites is the right step in preventing damage to your building. If the termites are allowed to attack continuously throughout the year, it is not impossible that you have to rebuild your building.
THE ADVANTAGES OF ANTI-TERMITE POST-CONSTRUCTION
Post-construction termite control can be done after the building is finished and ready to be inhabited or even if the building is already occupied, this method is still workable. The floor will be slightly perforated with a drill to inject chemicals and will be covered again with almost the same condition when before being perforated.
The termite path to be fortified is clearly visible. The point to be injected is more affordable. Cleaner and neater workmanship.
